Edward Gates

Edward is an intrepid traveller and art historian who aside from shadowing Patrick Leigh Fermor's trans-European trip on foot along the Rhine and Danube, has spent time in a Syrian monastery studying Orthodox wall paintings and worked in Istanbul and Greece as guide.
Edward studied History of Art at the University of Manchester, writing his dissertation on Eastern influences on Venetian medieval architecture before completing a Masters in Byzantine Art and Architecture at the Courtauld Institute of Art in 2008.
In London, alongside work for Art History UK, he works for the Imperial War Museum's education department and a number of other specialist cultural travel companies. More recently he has built a museum in a recently restored Napoleonic era gun battery on the Dalmatian island of Vis.
